Why we exist
When CPS enters a family's life, parents are thrown into a system they don't understand — often without knowing their rights, what to expect, or how the process works. Most information out there assumes the parent is guilty. The professionals across the table work together every day; the parent is the only newcomer in the room. Some parents can't afford help. Some can't read dense legal English. Some don't speak English at all.
That's not a level playing field. We're here to level it.
What we believe
- Due process belongs to every parent. Not just the innocent, not just the sympathetic — every parent, in every case. A system that denies rights to anyone endangers them for everyone.
- Information is power that belongs in parents' hands. Plain language for the exhausted parent at 2 a.m.; depth for the parent who wants to dig.
- We never help anyone evade responsibility or continue harm. Empowering a parent to keep records, understand hearings, and complete a treatment plan isn't cheating the system — it's keeping the system honest.
- Accountability goes both ways. Parents are held to every requirement; the system should be too. We equip parents to document, question, and formally complain when the rules aren't followed.
- Free means free. Every guide, tool, and download — free forever. No paywalls, no accounts, no selling anything to anyone.
Who's behind this
The Parent Empowerment Project was founded by E.T., a Colorado parent who has lived this system from the inside — the confusion, the paperwork, the crowded courtrooms, the way one caseworker's notes can become the official story. She built what she couldn't find when she needed it most, so the next parent doesn't have to walk in unarmed. The Project is guided by a volunteer board and grows with the help of parents, advocates, and professionals who share the mission.
What we are — and aren't
- We are free education, practical tools, and a steady voice saying: you have rights, and you can do this.
- We are not a law firm, and nothing here is legal advice. We never tell you what to do — the decisions in your case belong to you and, ideally, a licensed attorney. Full disclaimer here.
